Flexsys Rubber Chemicals - MINISONIC CLAMP ON

FLEXSYS have two very large effluent treatment balance tanks fed by two individual pipes supplied from a common header. The pipework has not been installed with metering in mind and the pipe material is a combination of Polyurethane, GRP and a final rough GRP overcoat.
The Problem:
FLEXSYS had a requirement to install process meters on the treatment plant to ascertain the percentage flow going to each tank. There was a difference of opinion on the flow volume being split between each tank. Also the pipework was not conducive to flow measurement and the pipework materials and sizes were not readily available. Five other Ultrasonic manufacturers and suppliers had been to site to offer a similar solution, all of which had failed. The flows could not be shut down to put an insertion or inline meter in to the pipe, so the whole operation had to be done with the plant running.
The Solution:
The solution was to use a clamp on meter from ULTRAFLUX. On arrival at site the pipework was surveyed, the pipe od, material and wall thickness were checked and agreed. The application was extremely challenging and it was no surprise that other clamp on ultrasonic manufacturers had problems.The metering system had to be trialed first, to ensure the meter was reading to an accurate and repeatable level, and to check the flow fell roughly within the range expected. After the trail, the order was placed and the meters installed without any problems. The flows to each tank were monitored, and found to add up to exactly the flow being measured by a new ABB MAGMASTER™® on the common header of 50 LPS, and the split was found to be 20/30 LPS. This enabled more effective effluent treatment and control prior to discharge.The MINISONIC range of flowmeters were also selected for their range ability and ease of installation. Where pipework has been installed, clamp-on meters can be selected for their retrofit capability. Flows are not interrupted or by-passed and the installation can be easily checked by the in-built diagnostics.Temperatures to 180 C are a standard option (and soon down to -50 C), and pipe sizes of 10-3300 mm are offered through firmware and sensor options. 2 channel and 2 chord versions are available. The ‘ESC’ autofocus function increases the performance of the meter in extreme conditions.
